2018 Eastern Newfoundland Region NL18-CFB01
The Eastern Newfoundland Region represents part of the North Atlantic Mesozoic rift system which includes the Jeanne d’Arc, Orphan and Flemish Pass Basins.
On April 5, 2018, the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) announced the Call for Bids NL18-CFB01. The block definition includes 16 parcels of land, nine new parcels are the focus of the 2018 Independent Resource Assessment which have been broken into two separate land areas – 2018 A (Orphan Basin) and 2018 B (East Jeanne d’Arc Basin).
Located approximately 330 kilometres east-northeast of St. John’s, the sector lies in the central portion of the Eastern Newfoundland Zone and covers an area of approximately 16,000 square kilometres. Water depths range from 180 metres to 2,600 metres.
Located approximately 400 kilometres east-southeast of St. John’s, the sector lies in the southern portion of the Eastern Newfoundland Zone and covers an area of 6,600 square kilometres. Water depths range from 110 metres to 1,350 metres.
Using the insights from regional Nalcor-Airbus satellite seeps survey and gravity and magnetics data, Nalcor, in partnership with global seismic companies TGS and PGS, is conducting one of the largest seismic programs in the world. By the end of 2017, over 170,000 line kilometres of new 2D and 15,000 square kilometres of multi-client 3D seismic data had been acquired. In addition to new data acquisition, Nalcor is systematically evaluating Offshore NL’s sedimentary basins for their potential to contain new oil and gas discoveries. From biostratigraphy to regional rock physics, these studies are undertaken to address key risks and scientific uncertainties. This data and knowledge helps inform the annual resource assessment results.
Interested parties have until 12:00 p.m. NST on November 7th, 2018 to submit bids for the parcels offered in Call for Bids NL18-CFB01. Further detailed information pertaining to this Call for Bids can be found at: www.cnlopb.ca/exploration/issuance/
